Development Environment for Skinning DotNetNuke

Was recently assigned to a project where my colleages where developing an application using DotNetNuke. I was tasked (being the resident designer), to create skins using CSS.

Having majored in Fine Arts/Visual Communication, programming and scripting aren’t really my specialties, but recently I’ve been doing a lot more projects involving Actionscript, PHP/MySQL, ASP, and Flex so I felt the need of retooling myself to at least understand what my team mates are talking about. A recent addition was DotNetNuke, a CMS running on ASP.NET.

So feeling up to the challenge, I went about researching, with Google as my friend and companion. I’m going to be posting links on what I find here, just in case someone stumbles in.

Here’s a good place to start if you want to start building DNN skins of your own.

Went through the process of designing the skin using CSS. I share every developer’s sentiment about IE6. It sucks!!! Just because you come preinstalled with an OS means you can set your own standards.

It’s a quirky bug-filled business, but it all starts with making your lay-out first. The put in your tokens, your containers, make an xml… many things to learn, but I’m learning a lot. I’ve yet to make my skin package though…
